Why Padel tennis is booming in the Middle East
The Middle East is fast becoming recognised as one of the biggest potential markets for Padel Tennis and other sports following a survey published by PwC Middle East. As GoPadel grows fast across the world, we expect the Middle East to become one of the fastest-growing areas.
And indeed, padel clubs are springing up everywhere across the region to meet the demand for what is becoming one of Europes, and the worlds, most popular and fastest-growing recreational sports!
Padel around the world
Padel Tennis was invented in Mexico by Enrique Corcuera in 1969. It is currently most popular, as in hugely popular, in Hispanic American countries such as Argentina and Mexico, as well as in Spain and Andorra, although it is now beginning to spread rapidly across Europe as well as the Middle East and Asia.
Spain and Portugal have professional leagues. Padel Pro Tour (PPT) was the professional padel circuit that was created in 2005 as a result of the agreement between a group of organizers of matches of padel and Association of Professional Players of Padel (AJPP) and the Spanish Feminine Association of Padel (AFEP). Nowadays, the most important padel circuit is World Padel Tour (WPT), which started in Spain though it has already reached international expansion. In 2014 WPTÂ first travelled to Portugal, Argentina and Dubai.
The sport’s popularity along the Costa del Sol in southern Spain and the Algarve in southern Portugal has exposed it to a large number of European visitors, leading to the massive popularity of the sport in their home countries.
The popularity of this Padel racket sport, as an easy to learn and sociable game that can also be very competetive, is enjoyed by over 20 million players across 5 continents.
Hotels are investing in Padel Courts and driving the expansion because the tourist market wants to play a game that is easy to master and not so physically demanding whilst on holiday.
Middle East Sports Survey
The survey (click here to view) highlights that in contrast to other areas in the world, the regional governments in the Middle East are looking at sport as a means to diversify their markets away from their natural resources. We invite investors in the Middle East to join the padel revolution – Go Padel Club can assist at every step of the process. With fantastic weather, The Middle East already host many prestigeous events such as the Grand Prix in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, the Saudi Cup, the Dubai tennis championship and many others. The survey states “Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for example, have spent more than $65bn on sports development and GoPadel has already seen a growth in demand for Padel Tennis from the Middle East lately and expect the trend to continue.
